Hello!
My name is Phoebe Nelson, and I am an illustrator and designer. I have been obsessed with storytelling from a very young age. I was always writing stories, performing plays, and creating art. Fascinated with nature, I also spent many hours outside studying insects and picking flowers. As I grew, so did my passions for storytelling, art, education, and science. My art and illustrations are now the outlets for these passions, created to inspire children and awaken their curiosity about the world around them. My work ranges from digital to traditional mixed media, and I always find ways to incorporate handmade textures, prints, dip pen, and even felting techniques. The same curiosity, experimentation, and imaginative thinking I hope to inspire in others is the basis of my creative process.
I am a senior at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, earning my BFA in Illustration and minoring in Communication Design. In the summer of 2024, I worked as an assistant curator and exhibition designer for the Lois Ehlert exhibition at MIAD’s Brook Stevens Gallery. Moving forward, I plan to delve further into the advertising, publishing, and children’s book markets, creating educational content for children. My goal is to excite children about history and science by using a diverse range of characters and perspectives, to show children that they can make the world a better place for us all.
